The Search for a Permanent Voice: Phil Campbell's Musical Journey Continues
In a recent chat with Strefa Music Art, former MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell opened up about the future of his band, PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS. But here's where it gets controversial: they're still on the hunt for a permanent singer.
As of December 4, 2025, the band has been hard at work, with about eight to ten song ideas in the works. However, Phil revealed that they haven't started serious recording yet, but they're taking their time and enjoying the creative process. With their own studio setup and a relaxed environment, they plan to dive into the studio in January and February.
"We've been so busy, but we're taking a well-deserved break now. Having our own studio nearby gives us the freedom to create without time constraints. It's a musician's dream!" Phil shared.
When asked about the band's future plans, Phil hinted at new material in 2026. But the big question remains: who will be their permanent singer? Joel Peters, their previous singer, has left, and they've found a temporary solution in Julian Jenkins, a talented singer and guitarist from the band FURY. Jenkins has been a great help, but Phil admits they're still searching for that long-term replacement.
And this is the part most people miss: PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS started as a side project, a fun venture with Phil's sons, Todd, Dane, and Tyla. But over time, it evolved into something bigger. With a self-titled EP and two successful albums, "The Age of Absurdity" and "We're the Bastards," the band gained recognition and critical acclaim. Their sound, a blend of passion and swagger, resonated with fans and landed them support slots with the legendary GUNS N' ROSES.
Phil's musical journey with MOTÖRHEAD, which spanned over three decades, is a testament to his talent. He was the band's sole guitarist for the last 20 years, appearing on iconic albums like "Orgasmatron" and "1916." With the passing of Lemmy in 2015, MOTÖRHEAD came to a close, but Phil's musical spirit remained.
In 2019, Phil released his first solo record, "Old Lions Still Roar," featuring collaborations with rock legends like Rob Halford and Dee Snider. It was a project five years in the making, showcasing Phil's versatility and enduring passion for music.
So, as PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS continue their journey, the question remains: who will be the permanent voice to front this talented family band? Will it be Julian Jenkins, or is there another singer out there waiting to be discovered? What do you think, music lovers? Who would you like to see take on this role? Let's discuss in the comments!
