Former Child Star Keke Palmer Leads the Cast in Peacock's The 'Burbs Remake (2026)

Imagine a beloved childhood star stepping back into the limelight, but this time with a twist that promises to captivate audiences anew. Keke Palmer, renowned for her early roles, takes center stage in an exciting dark comedy inspired by the 1989 classic film featuring Tom Hanks, titled The ‘Burbs.

In this fresh television adaptation of the cherished eighties film, Keke portrays Samira, a new mother filled with unease, who is compelled to return to her husband's childhood home alongside their newborn son, Rob, played by Jack Whitehall. But life in this seemingly tranquil cul-de-sac is far from idyllic. As a mysterious neighbor moves in across the street, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge, leading to an unfolding murder mystery that grips the neighborhood.

This thrilling series, set to debut on February 8 on BINGE, also showcases the talents of Paula Pell and Julia Duffy, who play the ever-curious neighbors. Adding to the star-studded cast is Haley Joel Osment, famously known for his role in The Sixth Sense, while Seth MacFarlane, the creative mind behind Family Guy and Ted, serves as executive producer. This combination of talent was enough to entice Palmer into taking on the role of both star and producer.

For those eager to dive into the suspenseful world of The ‘Burbs, tune in starting February 8 on BINGE, which can also be accessed via Hubbl.

Reflecting on her experience with the script, Palmer shared with Entertainment Weekly, "I was like, ‘Give me more! Where does this go? I have questions!’ It kept making me lean in." She elaborated, "That was definitely the appeal. It’s funny, but it’s also real. There are so many layers to it—it captures the essence of being a black woman in a new neighborhood, dealing with postpartum challenges, and grappling with the feeling of being gaslit in a situation where nobody believes you. It’s a whirlwind of emotions."

Although Palmer brings a refreshing perspective to this eight-episode narrative arc, film enthusiasts will inevitably recall the original film, which has since gained a cult following. In the 1989 version, Tom Hanks plays Ray Peterson, a man attempting to enjoy a "staycation" in his suburban home. However, his tranquility is shattered when he becomes convinced that his enigmatic new neighbors, the Klopeks, are part of a sinister Satanic cult. Alongside his equally intrusive neighbors, Ray discovers that not everything is as it seems with the Klopeks, leading to a chilling revelation.

The original film boasted a talented cast, including former child star Corey Feldman, Bruce Dern (father of Laura Dern), and the late Carrie Fisher, who portrayed Hanks' wife.

Mark your calendars for the premiere of The ‘Burbs on February 8 at 9 PM on BINGE and Foxtel On Demand. Are you ready to see how this classic tale transforms in the hands of new talent, or do you think nothing can compare to the original? Share your thoughts!
